Poker, Poker, Poker

So you’ve played a bit of Blackjack, and won a bit of money, but now you fancy something with a bit more skill? Played a few weekends of Texas Hold’em, and fancy trying this Omaha game you’ve been hearing about? Always wanted to try out Texas Hold’em, but thought that it might be too complicated? Well then, read on to learn more about the two most popular types of poker: Texas Hold’em, and Omaha.

Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em is the king of the poker world – the main event at the World Series, it has the biggest pots, and the most players. Hold’em is easy enough to learn – two hole cards, five community cards, bluff and play your way to the best five card hand and the most winnings. Sound easy enough? It is! Texas Hold’em is so popular because it is so easy to pick up and play, but that doesn’t mean that it has no strategy, quite the opposite – Hold’em, like all of poker, is a very skilful game, and if you want to pick up the best tricks, then you should check out the many excellent guides that are available online. Omaha – what’s the difference?

So you want to try other types of poker – Omaha is the right place to come. The main difference is the amount of hole cards: 4, not 2. This means you have the chance to make much bigger hands in Omaha, and it can be much more exciting. Unlike Hold’em, you have to use exactly two of your hole cards in the final 5 card hand. The other major difference is the betting – Omaha is usually played with a pot-limit. And that’s basically it!
